The challenge

DML Labs operates under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification — the same regulatory regime that governs pharmaceutical manufacturing. That means every gram of every raw material has to be tracked through every step of every batch, from receiving dock to finished product going out for retail. If a regulator asks where a specific lot of an ingredient ended up, the answer has to be on the screen in minutes, not days.

Before Odoo, traceability lived across multiple systems, paper forms, and institutional memory. As DML grew, that arrangement became fragile.

What we did

We implemented Odoo Manufacturing, Inventory and Quality across three facilities. The configuration is built around lot-tracked inventory at every node, with mandatory quality control points at receiving, in-process, and final release.

  • Bills of materials and routings for the full product catalog, including byproducts and rework paths
  • Lot tracking enforced at receipt, work order, and shipment
  • Quality control points integrated into work orders so production cannot proceed until QC is passed
  • Custom reports for regulatory audit trails — "show me everywhere this lot of ingredient X went" in one query
  • Phased rollout across facilities, with each facility live before starting the next
The biggest shift wasn't the software — it was the discipline. Once everyone could see the same data, the conversations about what was actually happening on the floor became a lot shorter.

What's next

DML continues to extend its Odoo footprint as the business grows. Current work includes deeper integration with their lab quality systems and an expansion of the PLM module to track formula revisions across the regulatory submission lifecycle.

Why this case is illustrative

If you work in a regulated industry — pharma, aerospace, food & beverage, defence, medical devices — the demands on your ERP go beyond "track what you have." Odoo can meet those demands when it's configured by people who understand the regulations. We have.
